In the 70th minute, Arsenal brought on Swedish defender Smilla Holmberg. From the bench, she had watched her teammates lose the lead in the London match after Lyon scored twice in the first half.
Holmberg then took matters into her own hands and sent in a cross to attacking star Alessia Russo, which reduced the match score to 1–2, making the aggregate 3–3.
But it wouldn't be enough for the reigning champions. In the 89th minute of the match, Lyon's Jule Brand scored and sent Lyon through to the final.
Holmberg's teammate Stina Blackstenius started the match but was substituted without scoring.
