Arsenal Draw Delays Liverpool's Premier League Title Celebration

Liverpool will have to wait to pop the champagne. Arsenal played 2-2 against Crystal Palace and postponed the rival's title celebration at least until Sunday.

It's only a matter of time before Liverpool's men can proclaim themselves English league champions in football, which is probably something everyone agrees on.

As early as Wednesday evening, they could have started celebrating without having to play themselves. However, that would have required a loss for the only remaining challenger Arsenal, and that didn't happen.

Jakub Kiwior nodded in 1–0 at home against Crystal Palace as early as the third minute, and Leandro Trossard made it 2–1 at the end of the first half, after the visitors' Eberechi Eze had equalized in between.

Arsenal seemed to have control of the match when William Saliba dawdled with the ball in front of their own penalty area. Crystal Palace's Jean-Phillipe Mateta snatched it, noticed that Arsenal's goalkeeper David Raya was standing far out, and elegantly chipped in 2–2 via the crossbar.

Crystal Palace had a few half-chances for a winning goal, but Arsenal held on and thus kept alive the battle for the Premier League title.

Now, it probably won't make much difference. With four matches left to play, Arsenal has twelve points and ten goals to catch up with Liverpool, who on Sunday will get a new chance to secure the club's first league victory since the 2019–2020 season. A point at home against Tottenham will be enough to make Liverpool champions for the 20th time in history – a tie with Manchester United's record.

The last four seasons have seen Manchester City win the league.
