After two seasons at Liverpool, Arne Slot has done his job as coach at the club; the Dutchman has been fired after a weak season.
Slot had big shoes to fill when he took over Liverpool from Jürgen Klopp. And in his first season he succeeded - Slot led the club to its 20th league title in 2024–2025.
But this season the team has fared worse. Liverpool finished fifth in the league, despite big, expensive signings last summer. Among other things, the team paid almost 1.7 billion kronor to buy the Swede from Newcastle.
The team's play has also been weak, and there have been rumors in the British media about rifts between Slot and several players.
"We have collectively come to the conclusion that change is necessary for the club to move forward," Liverpool wrote in a statement.
According to well-informed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is the favourite to take over as manager at the club.
