Armand Duplantis did not receive the Jerring Prize last year. He has also missed out on the award this year, as he was eliminated when the shortlist was reduced from eight candidates to five.

Table tennis player Truls Möregårdh, who received the award last year, and skier Ebba Andersson, winner the year before, are also out. The battle now stands between Jonna Sundling (skiing), Mjällby (football), Andreas Almgren (athletics), Daniel Ståhl (athletics) and Jenny Rissveds (mountain biking).

However, the pole vault star has already been on stage at the Sports Gala.

He accepted the Leader of the Year award, which was presented to his parents, Greg and Helena.

"I asked my parents what they wanted me to say if they won. Dad said I'm more used to giving speeches than he is, so I should fix it," he said in SVT's broadcast.

Helena, on the other hand, sent a text message with a list of thanks that Duplantis read through quickly and concluded with "Thanks."

Thanks.

Armand Duplantis is also nominated for Male Athlete of the Year and Achievement of the Year.
