The company describes the initiative as Arla's largest ever and the most extensive in Swedish food history.
"The broad political commitment to increasing Swedish food production and self-sufficiency has been an important contributing factor to the investment being made in Sweden," says CEO Peder Tuborgh in a press release.
According to Arla, the investment will increase the self-sufficiency rate for Swedish cheese by approximately ten percentage points from 37 to 47 percent. Among other things, the production of household cheese will be moved from Denmark to Sweden. Arla estimates that this will result in around 70 new full-time jobs.
