Four people have died in severe flooding in Arizona, among other things in mining areas where water has flowed in and forced people to seek shelter on rooftops.

In the community Globe with over 7,000 inhabitants, three people have been found dead. In a suburb of Phoenix, around 14 miles away, one person has been found dead near a vehicle that got stuck in floodwater.

A comprehensive search and rescue operation is underway, the police announce. Inhabitants are urged not to go out and search because search dogs can smell the scent of volunteers instead of possible flood victims.

In Globe 6.4 centimeters of rain came in one day. The community is located near canyons that can lead water from the mountains into the community very quickly.
