These are the "Arctic allies" - Sweden, Finland, Denmark (including Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Norway, Iceland, the USA and Canada - who agreed this during the NATO meeting in Helsingborg.

"Today we have agreed to deepen our dialogue on security challenges in the Arctic and the High North," reads the statement on the government's website.

Cooperation is "more important than ever" as "Europe and Canada take greater responsibility for deterrence and defense in the region."

The countries also agree to have their experts coordinate on issues related to resource extraction and economic development in the region, including "research safety, investment review, and the modernization and protection of critical infrastructure."
