Crown Princess Victoria is traveling to the Vatican to attend Pope Leo XIV's installation mass on Sunday. Archbishop Martin Modéus and Social Minister Jakob Forssmed (CD) are also participating.

The installation, which takes place on St. Peter's Square, is the formal ceremony that inaugurates the new pope's term of office, or pontificate.

Leo XIV was elected pope on May 8 following a brief conclave and thus becomes the 267th person to hold the post. In a statement made in connection with the white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel, Modéus stated:

"In a time of great challenges, spiritual leaders have an important role to play. This applies particularly to the leader of the world's largest community. I place great value on the good ecumenical cooperation with the Catholic Church in Sweden and internationally."
