President Donald Trump's attempt to get rid of Fed member Lisa Cook before this week's interest rate decision fails. An appeals court has decided that Lisa Cook may continue in her position, at least temporarily, and thus be involved and vote on the key interest rate.

Tomorrow Wednesday, the US central bank Federal Reserve and Fed chief Jerome Powell will announce the next interest rate decision. When the board now meets, Lisa Cook will also be included – after all.

On Monday, a federal appeals court announced that Trump cannot fire Lisa Cook. The verdict is now the second setback for Trump in his attempts to get rid of Lisa Cook, whom he has accused of not handling her mortgage applications correctly.

The background is at the same time that Cook has a different line than Trump on whether the key interest rate should be lowered. Trump has pressed the Fed to lower the key interest rate and wants to see members within the Fed who share that view.

The danger is however not over for Cook. The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that it will appeal the court's decision, reports Bloomberg.

Cook must also still navigate through the country's legal system to be able to permanently block Trump's decision to fire her.
