Anutin Charnvirakul is the leader of the conservative party Bhumjaithai. He received more than half of the votes in the parliamentary vote and is expected to take office in a few days, after being formally appointed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The 58-year-old Anutin Charnvirakul has previously been deputy prime minister, interior minister and health minister. He will succeed Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was forced out of the post last week after being convicted by the country's constitutional court for ethical offenses.
