Due to an engine change, Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes was forced to start 19th and last in the field at his home race at Monza. The Italian responded with a superb overtaking display.

After just 18 laps, Antonelli had taken the lead. After 29 laps, he took the opportunity to change tires when the virtual safety car was out. Although Antonelli lost ground, he was able to get past teammate George Russell on his fresh tires and by the time the 53 laps were completed, the Italian had secured the victory.

This was Antonelli's seventh victory of the season and he now extends his World Championship lead to 66 points ahead of Russell.
