The Swede is of course fundamentally a great talent. He has represented Sweden in several youth national teams, made his debut in the Swedish ice hockey league at the age of 16 and two years later made his first SHL appearance.
Success that was the result of many training sessions and a lot of hard work.
But also - as I said - some studies.
Kept an eye on Kruger
Frondell has always been aware of the importance of "refueling" fellow players with information, and thus getting tips for succeeding in the sport.
Marcus Krüger, 33, was one of the players he listened to and watched during his time at Djurgården.
We played in the same line, Frondell says in an interview TT has seen, explaining that in this way he was able to examine the veteran's playing sense.
All those little details that he has experience with... Krüger is also a winner. He knows what it takes to win the Stanley Cup twice.
Frondell pays tribute to his former teammate and has also chosen the same number that Krüger had during his years in Chicago.
It feels awesome.
Another player that the relatively new NHL player has studied is Finnish Alexander Barkov, Stanley Cup winner with Florida in 2024 and 2025.
He's very good with the puck and very skilled offensively, but also very skilled in his positional play all over the ice. When Florida loses the puck in the offensive zone, he's right there. He knows where to be to take away time and space for the opponents.
Roller coaster last year
Anton Frondell played twelve NHL games with Chicago this spring, during a season he now calls "crazy".
He also played his first games in the SHL, won JVM gold and took a World Championship spot in Tre Kronor.
It was a bit like a roller coaster, he says.
It was very cool and I have gained a lot of experience.
This season will be his first real one in the NHL, and the start of his three-year rookie contract worth just over 27 million kronor.
I go into training camp with pretty much the same mindset as everyone else. Everyone is there on the same terms. Everyone is going to be fighting for a spot on the team, and I go in with the same mentality.
The NHL season starts on September 29th.
