It was after a missed shot by the opposing team, Portland, that Minnesota player Anthony Edwards caught the ball and threw it across the court.
A video from the incident shows the ball hitting a man in the head.
Last season, Edwards was fined a total of $420,000 by the NBA for eight separate violations, most of them for using foul language in post-game interviews.
