Norwegian biathlete Sivert Guttorm Bakken was found dead in his hotel room the day before Christmas Eve. The results of the forensic examination will take several months, the family's lawyer said.

"Neither the family nor we have received any information about the results of the forensic examination, and the family will not know more about the cause of death until March next year," says lawyer Bernt Heiberg in a press release.

Bakken was found dead in his hotel room in Lavazè, Italy, the day before Christmas Eve. He was wearing a high-altitude mask. The cause of death is not yet clear.

As a result of the death, the Norwegian Olympic Committee advises against the use of high-altitude masks.

"We urge both the sports world and the press to refrain from speculation about what may have caused Bakken's death out of respect for his family. The sports world's need to evaluate the use of simulated high-altitude equipment must be done without being linked to Bakken's death," says Heiberg.

Sivert Guttorm Bakken was 27 years old.
