A total of six campsites and a residential area in the Gironde department have been evacuated by French authorities, who overnight described the decision as "a precautionary measure".
The fires had destroyed approximately 2,000 hectares in the area late on Wednesday, and a total of 12,000 people have now had to be evacuated.
Several areas of France have been hit by raging forest fires in recent days. People have also been evacuated in the Mediterranean department of Var after flames devoured more than 2,500 hectares in a single day.
