Left-back Anna Sandberg has been waiting for her first goal in the Manchester United jersey. After a goalless first season, the 22-year-old struck in the Super League top match at home against league leader Chelsea.
In the 20th minute, Sandberg skillfully placed a half-volley – a goal that meant 1–1 after Wieke Kapten gave the away team the lead in the ninth minute.
There were plenty of Swedish national team players on the pitch. In United, left-winger Fridolina Rolfö, who joined from Barcelona in the summer, and midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme also started. In Chelsea, central defender Nathalie Björn and winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd were found.
The first half at Leigh Sports Village, which is located east of Manchester, was rich in scoring opportunities, but the second act became tight.
In the spring, Chelsea took their sixth consecutive league title after going unbeaten (19 wins, 3 draws) through the Super League. The team has not lost in the league since May 1, 2024, and that streak remains intact.
The London club pushed for a winning goal at the end, but the meeting ended 1–1 and Chelsea have now played 30 league matches without a loss. The team tops the Super League table with 13 points after starting the season with four wins.
Also, second-placed Manchester United is unbeaten after five matches and stands on eleven points.
