Mijailo Mijailovic was sentenced in 2003 to life imprisonment for the murder of Sweden's then Foreign Minister Anna Lindh. Now he has applied for and been granted a special leave, a so-called breathing space leave by the Prison and Probation Service.

In documents from the authority that Aftonbladet has taken part of, from June 13, it is stated that the leave will be made under supervision.

Since the verdict, Mijailovic has served his prison sentence at a number of different institutions in Sweden – including Kumla and Tidaholm.

According to the Prison and Probation Service, he may not be granted regular leave, but in the spring, Mijailovic was allowed to leave the institution for a medical visit and was then allowed to wear restraints.

Anna Lindh was Foreign Minister in Göran Persson's social democratic government. She was murdered during a visit to the department store NK in Stockholm in September 2003.
