Hallberg succeeds poet Tua Forsström in chair 18 and will take office at the Academy's ceremonial meeting on December 20, 2026, according to a press release.

Hallberg, born in 1975, debuted in 2001 with the acclaimed poetry collection “Friktion.” With a total of nine poetry collections, she has “consolidated her position as one of the most uncompromisingly innovative and form-conscious voices in contemporary Swedish poetry,” according to the Academy.

The new member has received several awards, including the Aftonbladet Literature Prize and the Gerard Bonnier Poetry Prize. For her latest poetry collection, “AN” (2025), she has been nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2026.

She is also an essayist and well-regarded literary critic, especially in Dagens Nyheter.
