The artist Ann Wolff loses the dispute against the glassworks Orrefors Kosta Boda, reports P4 Gotland.
In December, the news broke that Wolff is suing the glassworks for retroactive copyright compensation for the classic candle holder "snöbollen", which she designed for Kosta Boda in 1973.
The popular design has sold in millions of copies, but Wolff has not received any payments for "snöbollen" since the mid-80s. This is due to a time-limited contract she signed, according to which her copyright would expire after ten years.
The Gotland District Court dismisses the dispute and refers to the fact that Wolff and the glassworks had an agreement that disputes between them would be resolved privately through arbitration and not through a public court.
Wolff must now pay Kosta Boda's legal costs of 300,000 kronor, according to P4 Gotland. The verdict can, however, be appealed and the dispute will then be handled by the Labour Court.
