Stone – born in Columbia, South Carolina – is best known for the song "Wish I Didn’t Miss You" from 2001, writes Variety.

”Angie Stone’s voice and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched”, says her representative in a statement, reports CNN.

During her career, Stone released ten solo albums, most recently "Love Language" from 2023, and was nominated for a Grammy three times.

She was first known as a member of the groundbreaking female hip-hop trio The Sequence, formed in 1979, and behind songs like "Funk you up", for example.

Stone has also performed in Sweden several times, including at the Stockholm Jazz Festival at Skansen in 2011.

The singer has collaborated with artists such as Prince, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, and Stevie Wonder, writes Rolling Stone. Additionally, Stone has acted and appeared in over 40 film roles.

After performing in Alabama on Friday evening, Stone and her band members were on their way to Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday morning when the car crashed, according to a representative for the singer.

Stone was the only person who died in the accident, according to Variety.

She was 63 years old.
