Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators have protested on Istanbul's streets after the city's mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was arrested on March 19. The opposition party CHP has called for a boycott of companies that are believed to support Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan – including the entertainment company DBL Entertainment, whose owner has expressed criticism of the protests.
The concert organizer has booked a performance with Ane Brun in Istanbul in October. However, on her social media, people have urged her to cancel the performance, which she now announces that she will do.
"I was really looking forward to playing for you, my Turkish fans, but unfortunately, this is not the right time", the artist writes on social media, adding: "I stand with you in peace and love".
Robbie Williams and Muse have also been booked by the same organizer, and many are urging them to cancel as well, but the artists have not yet responded.
The authorities in Turkey have also cracked down on media and arrested several journalists, including Swedish Joakim Medin who had traveled there to cover the protests. Ane Brun does not mention that the decision to cancel is related to the arrest.
