According to prosecutor James Uthmeier, the brothers have publicly admitted to participating in what appears to be human trafficking.
"This is an ongoing criminal investigation and we will use all the tools we have to ensure that justice is served," says Uthmeier in a statement to local media, according to AFP.
38-year-old Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, 36, arrived in the USA last week, after their restrictions on leaving Romania were lifted. In Romania, they are accused of, among other things, rape, trafficking of minors, and organizing a criminal group for the sexual exploitation of women.
Both deny the crimes and have dual citizenship, in both the United Kingdom and the USA. A Romanian court decided last year that the two should be extradited to the United Kingdom, where they are also suspected of several crimes, but also announced that the extradition could be delayed for several years due to the separate court case in Romania.
The brothers must return to Romania for court hearings on March 24, according to Romanian authorities.
