Tate, 39, a controversial influencer in the so-called manosphere, is also charged with raping at least two minors and witness tampering. His brother Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with complicity in several of the crimes.
According to a press release, Andrew Tate has, among other things, pressured a 15-year-old girl into producing pornographic material, including through physical, psychological and financial violence. Through the girl, who was controlled, monitored and shuttled between the UK and Romania between 2012 and 2021, the brothers are said to have collected over $1.25 million. With the money, they are said to have bought at least four luxury cars that are now being confiscated by Romanian prosecutors.
Tate is also charged with repeatedly raping another underage girl, also 15 years old. All crimes in the indictment were committed between 2012 and 2021.
Large following
Self-proclaimed misogynist Andrew Tate previously sold “courses” on how men can force women to work as “webcam models.” He has claimed, among other things, that women are responsible if they are raped and that married women belong to their husbands.
The Tate brothers, who have British and American citizenship, are currently in custody in Florida, USA, on charges of rape and sex trafficking. The UK has requested their extradition to face a British court on a total of 59 charges, including multiple counts of rape and distribution of “extreme” pornography and child abuse material. They deny the charges.
Despite a long list of accusations over the years, Andrew Tate in particular has maintained a large following online, primarily among men who are part of the “manosphere,” digital networks and online forums that revolve around hypermasculinity, misogyny, male dominance and traditional gender norms.
Trump connections
This past week, some of Tate's supporters gathered to protest the brothers' trial by doing push-ups outside the Miami jail.
The Tate brothers arrived in the United States in February 2025, after Romanian authorities lifted their travel restrictions at the time. According to American media, the Trump administration lobbied Romanian authorities to ease the restrictions.
Andrew Tate, who supported Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election, is reported to have close relationships with several people in the president's circle.
"I'm very close to the Trump family. I know them well," Tate
reporters in Romania in July 2024.
