"I find myself in good company with, among others, Håkan Hellström and Stefan Jarl," the prize winner says in a press release.
Andreas Eriksson was born in 1975 and is based in Medelplana, near Hällekis. He works in a wide range of media: painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and textiles. The colours and forms of nature and the landscape are a major source of inspiration.
“Andreas Eriksson makes the landscape something more than a place,” the jury writes in its citation.
The prize has been awarded since 2004 for an “outstanding contribution to cultural life.” Previous winners include Peter LeMarc and filmmakers Ruben Östlund and Gabriela Pichler.
