At the end of October, Andreas Almgren will run the half-marathon in Valencia. After that, a competition break awaits. I will most likely not participate in an indoor season, he says to SVT.

Andreas Almgren has his best season in his career behind him – with a European record on 5,000 meters in Stockholm and a World Championship bronze on 10,000 meters in Tokyo.

Now the 30-year-old announces that he will for the second year in a row refrain from the indoor season.

Focus is starting to become insufficient now, I actually started my last season with the European Cross Country Championship and will need a recovery period, says Almgren to SVT.

Exactly how the schedule looks during the winter half-year is not yet determined, but Almgren plans to run a few road races.

It's hard to say which competition will be the season start, because you don't know the competition program yet, he says.

But an outdoor season that gets underway sometime around May is what I will aim for.

Next season, the European Championship is the big goal. Almgren will double on both 10,000 and 5,000 meters, just like during the World Championship, but with new experiences in the bag.

After I succeeded on 10,000 meters, I failed to handle the days in between. It became too little sleep, many thoughts in my head and I will have to take thoughts from there to succeed with the double in the future. I think I will handle it much better next time, he says.
