Andreas Almgren interrupted the 5,000-meter race in the Diamond League gala in Monaco.

The 30-year-old, injury-stricken runner was in second place with a few laps left. Then he stepped off with feelings in the lower part of the back of his right thigh.

When you're going to start pushing the last five laps, I don't want to take the chance that something will go off, says Almgren to SVT.

We'll see what it's due to. But it shouldn't be any danger. I'm pretty sure that nothing has broken.

The most important race is in September (at the World Championship in Tokyo).

For just under a month ago, Andreas Almgren set a European record in the Diamond League gala in Stockholm with a time of 12.44,27.

Yomif Kejelcha, Ethiopia, won Friday's race in Monaco with a time of 12.49,46.
