Psychiatrist Anders Hansen is back with a new series on SVT. After viewer successes like "Your Brain" and "Your Personality" comes "Your Flock," which explores different aspects of belonging to a group.

Throughout history, belonging to a group has been vital. That idea is being challenged by modern society, where many people live alone, can work digitally and order food to their door.

The social need

We may think we can manage on our own, but the need for group affiliation remains, according to Anders Hansen.

"For 99.9 percent of human history, we lived in a different way, and then the group was as important as having food. It was hardwired into our brains to have this social need. It's still there, even though we no longer need each other to get through our lives," he says.

He also notes that involuntary loneliness is something that society and healthcare are taking increasingly seriously, which is addressed in the programme series.

Loneliness is a risk factor for a number of diseases.

Interviewing Tegnell

The series also addresses when the group goes too far. Among other things, Anders Hansen meets a former pastor in the Knutby congregation and an elderly woman who was involved in storming the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021 - but now regrets it.

Former state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell is also interviewed about how he handled criticism against him during the corona pandemic.

I wanted to include someone who has resisted global peer pressure. What was it like?

"Din Flock" is the sixth popular science series Anders Hansen has made for SVT. The programmes have made him a big TV profile and he is often stopped in town by grateful viewers.

All the time! And it feels really good because they almost all say the same thing. Some say they've started exercising more and some say they might have less screen time and some are just happy that they understand themselves better, he says.

52 years old, medical doctor trained at Karolinska Institutet, senior physician in psychiatry and MBA from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Had his breakthrough with the book "Brain Strong" (2016), which has sold 1.2 million copies and been published in 29 languages. In addition to six popular science series for SVT, Anders Hansen is a sought-after lecturer. He was a summer speaker on Swedish Radio in 2019.
