Byström left his coaching role with the Swedish national ski team at the end of March and then came into contact with the Canadian Ski Association when it was looking for references on Stefan Thomson.

A conversation that then ended with a separate assignment.

The 48-year-old will become an adviser to the association.

"Canada is undergoing major changes and wants to become more professional. When we talked about Stefan, we came up with the idea that I might also be able to contribute," says Byström.

Canada has extremely great potential, with many good ski resorts and lots of snow. Now it's time to take proper care of it. The ultimate goal is medals at the Olympics.

Thomson is now the head coach of the Canadian men's and women's national teams.
