The report singles out 87 officials as directly responsible for the brutal crackdown on protesters. Among them is then-Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, now head of the powerful Revolutionary Guard.
All 87 should be brought before an international court for their crimes, Amnesty urges.
The 2022 protests followed the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, after she was arrested by morality police for not wearing her headscarf “correctly.” Amnesty has identified 377 people - 56 of them children - who were killed during the protests.
The crackdown on the 2026 Iranian protest wave was "of an even deadlier and more shocking scale," the organization notes at the same time.
