The fleet surrounding the aircraft carrier, which is the United States' most advanced, includes two missile-equipped destroyers supporting warships and aircraft.
Several American warships are already in the waters.
Since the United States launched military attacks against smuggling boats belonging to suspected drug cartels, at least 80 people have been killed, according to AFP news agency calculations.
Caracas and leader Nicolás Maduro accuse the US of mobilizing for combat, and that the US is using the attacks as a pretext for escalating the threat against Venezuela.
The United States has not recognized Maduro as the legitimate leader of Venezuela, and Washington has issued a $50 million reward for the arrest of the Venezuelan president.
