Prices vary between states. But according to the motoring organization AAA, a gallon of the most common type of gasoline (regular) now costs $3.675. That's equivalent to 9.20 kronor per liter.

At the same time, the average price has increased by 25 percent compared to a month ago and 8 percent in a week.

The increase for diesel is even greater in one month, 35 percent, to $4.942 per gallon on average.

Fuel prices began to rise at the turn of the year, but more sharply after the outbreak of war on February 28 - something that is visible around the world.

Some political analysts point out that this development, if it persists, could hurt President Donald Trump's Republican Party in the midterm elections in November.
