At least five years in prison awaits an American man who faked his own death and fled the country to avoid a rape charge.

The man was convicted in August this year for sexual abuse against his former girlfriend in 2008. On Monday, the court established the sentence of imprisonment for at least five years up to life.

In an attempt to avoid the sentence, the man went from the USA to Scotland. His stay there came to an end in 2021 when staff at the hospital where the man was being cared for in Glasgow recognized his tattoos from a picture of a wanted man from Interpol.

The man was arrested but has all the time claimed that he is not the person in the picture, but an Irishman who has never set foot in the USA. He claims that it is the hospital that has tattooed him when he was unconscious in covid, in an attempt to frame him.
