The American was infected with the disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Due to the short flight time and Germany's experience in treating Ebola patients, the United States asked Germany for help, and the doctor was flown to Berlin on a special flight for infectious patients, according to the German Health Ministry.
The person has now been admitted to the Charité University Hospital in Berlin.
The Ebola virus is an RNA virus belonging to the filovirus family that causes hemorrhagic fever. The Bundibugyo variant of Ebola is responsible for the current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There are no vaccines or treatments for this variant.
