The agreement can give Open AI up to 10 percent of the shares in the chip manufacturer, if certain conditions in the agreement are met.
Open AI in turn undertakes to buy a large quantity of AI chips from AMD and to operate with their graphics processors for several years. The parties do not disclose how much the deal is worth.
AMD's share surged 25 percent in American trading – and had a few minutes after the opening on Wall Street risen 33.6 percent.
