The union at the ambulance service in Stockholm has placed a safety representative on hold in relation to an individual patient, reports P4 Stockholm. The reason is that staff have been repeatedly subjected to death threats involving knives and other sharp weapons.

Yet ambulance crews are being sent out, completely unaware of these risks, Chief Safety Officer Emil Skoglund told the radio.

This is because SOS Alarm, which directs ambulances, is not always informed about patients' violent pasts.

Matilda Axelsson, acting director of operations at the ambulance service in the Stockholm region, says in a written comment that the region is working on the problem.

"Of course, there should be a system in place so that the ambulance receives information about known risks before going out to a patient," she says.
