These Kindle models from 2012 or earlier will stop receiving technical support from Amazon on May 20. It will still be possible to read e-books already downloaded to the device, but after that date no new content can be downloaded, according to the BBC.

The Kindle was launched in 2007 and is used by millions of readers worldwide. Several early models are still in use. Amazon says the move is necessary.

"These models have been supported for at least 14 years - some as long as 18 years - but the technology has evolved significantly in that time," Amazon said in a statement to the BBC.
