OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman believes that the company should change its strategy regarding transparency about how the company's technology works and consider starting with open source code.

The comment came as Altman responded to user questions on the Reddit platform on Friday.

"Personally, I think we have been on the wrong side of history here and need to consider a different strategy when it comes to open source code", Altman replied to a question about whether he is considering making OpenAI's research public, but added:

"This view is not shared by everyone at OpenAI and it is currently not our top priority."

The question has become relevant in light of the competing Chinese AI service Deepseek, which is built on open source code.
