The record is 24.02 and was set by butterfly specialist Gretchen Walsh.
I knew it was a very old record, so it's really an honor to break it. That's what records are about, they're meant to be broken. So I'm glad to be part of the history books now, she says to the Swedish Swimming Federation.
But despite the super time, there are things to work on, according to the American herself.
A few things like polishing my turn and my finish. But to come out like that, in the first swim, I'm incredibly happy. I'm motivated to fine-tune the details and get faster and faster, she says.
It was not the first time the 21-year-old broke a Swedish world record.
Earlier this year, on June 15, she broke Sarah Sjöström's world record on the 100-meter butterfly in the long course.
