Katharina Liensberger, the 2022 Olympic silver medalist in the slalom, has suffered a knee injury and will miss the Olympics in Italy.

The 28-year-old Austrian suffered a serious knee injury when she fell during giant slalom training ahead of this weekend's World Cup in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

She suffered a fracture, meniscus damage and ligament damage in her right knee.

Katharina Liensberger came fourth in the slalom in Semmering last weekend and was one of the favorites in the slalom ahead of the Olympics in Milan and Cortina, where the women's alpine skiing competitions will be held. It was in Cortina that she won the World Cup gold in 2021. The following year, she came second in the slalom at the Beijing Olympics.
