The French alpine talent Margot Simond died in a skiing accident on Thursday, reports the French Ski Federation on X. The 18-year-old became French U18 champion in slalom as recently as March.

"The entire skiing family mourns Margot's death", writes the federation.

The accident occurred during a training session in Val d'Isère ahead of this weekend's planned Red Bull Alpine Park. In the competition, which French OS champion Clément Noël is behind, slalom is combined with the freeskiing discipline slopestyle.

The competition has now been cancelled.
