With the World Half Marathon Championships and an upcoming marathon debut in New York on the autumn schedule, Andreas Almgren needs to accumulate training kilometres. That is why it wasn’t enough to stroll home with the 10,000 metres at Finnkampen on Sunday afternoon with a smile, in a modest 29:09.88 for him.
"I'm in my first marathon period, so I loaded up with over three miles of running yesterday and have run almost 200 kilometres so far in six days. So it’s not like you’re bouncing forward," Almgren told SVT before the race.
Immediately after the victory at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki - the Swedish men completed a clean sweep - Almgren planned to run another 20 kilometres. And he didn’t want to drag his heels either, because as a loyal AIK supporter he also wanted to watch the Stockholm derby against Hammarby in the Allsvenskan football league.
You can listen to a broadcast with headphones. But I’ll try to sort out watching the second half anyway.
