It looks like there will be a Swedish super duel at the Stockholm stadium next year. Andreas Almgren challenges Samuel Pihlström in the 1,500 meters. It's a bit like the duel that I've been campaigning for, Almgren tells Radiosporten.

Samuel Pihlström's 3.30.87 is the Swedish record for 1,500 meters and at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo he reached the final.

At the Diamond League gala in Stockholm in June next year, however, Pihlström, assuming he starts, will face the toughest possible Swedish competition. Andreas Almgren - who ran the distance in 3.32.00 - will run 1,500 meters at the Stockholm stadium.

"It will be an important part of the build-up to the European Championships and it will be fun to once again test yourself against the world elite at the Stockholm stadium. It will be an awesome race that you don't want to miss," says Andreas Almgren in a press release.

The 30-year-old has had a sensational season with a World Championship bronze medal in the 10,000 meters in Tokyo and European records in both the 5,000 meters and half marathon.

Almgren's championship events will still be 5,000 and 10,000 meters, but he believes he also needs to run shorter distances to get better in the long run.

– I think that in order for me to be able to take another step in my efforts, it would be good if I could improve further in 1,500 meters, he tells Radiosporten.

The Diamond League gala in Stockholm will be held on June 7th.
