It took a point in the last league match, against Bolzano, for the Swedish hockey champion Luleå to definitely secure a playoff spot in the European hockey league CHL.
The home team led for a long time against Bolzano, who equalized to 2–2 with only 1.5 minutes left of the match.
But what did it matter, a place in the round of 16 was clear.
In the extension, it then took only 14 seconds for Mathias Bromé to set 3–2 and ensure that Luleå climbs in the table.
Frölunda, clear for playoffs already before the match against Bern, won with 4–3 at home.
Brynäs was also clear for playoffs before the last round. Then they traveled with many juniors to Northern Ireland to meet the table bottom Belfast, who had conceded 30 goals in five matches – and lost with 1–2. It was Belfast's first win in CHL this autumn.
The loss means that Brynäs may get tougher opponents in the round of 16. Because there the table leader meets the 16th and last team to the playoffs and the second meets the 15th team and so on. The match dates are November 11-12.
The last league matches are played on Wednesday.
