Voter turnout in Algeria looks set to hit a record low, according to preliminary figures from an electoral authority. If the 20.7 percent turnout holds, it would be lower than the previous record of 23 percent in 2021.
The election, held on Thursday, will elect 407 members of parliament. Preliminary results are expected in the coming days.
The 2021 parliamentary elections were the first since a large pro-democracy protest movement swept across the country in 2019.
