The Swedish star striker Alexander Isak is clear for Liverpool, reports the Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano on X. The deal makes him the most expensive Swedish player of all time and the sum is a record for Premier League.

The transfer fee is according to the usually well-informed journalist Romano set to 130 million pounds – approximately 1.65 billion kronor – which would mean a new record in the Premier League. The message comes less than a day before the transfer window closes.

The Swede is now expected to undergo a medical examination in Liverpool before being officially presented. According to information to BBC, the parties have agreed on a six-year contract.

”Promises are broken”

Isak has long been rumored to be on his way to the championship team Liverpool and has not played with the club he is now leaving, Newcastle, during the start of the Premier League season. He has during the summer refused to train and been clear that he wants to change club address. He also believes that Newcastle has promised him a transfer.

"When promises are broken, trust disappears, the relationship cannot continue”, Isak recently wrote in social media.

Newcastle presented on Saturday Isak's expected replacement, the German Nick Woltemade, which has contributed to the image that a transfer has been close. The clubs are said to have negotiated until the last moment after Newcastle rejected a bid of 110 million pounds.

Most expensive ever

The transfer window in England closes at 8 pm on Monday. The price tag of 1.65 billion kronor makes him the most expensive Swedish player ever.

During his three seasons in Newcastle, Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 competitive matches.

Isak broke through for AIK in the Allsvenskan as a 16-year-old in 2016. After 10 Allsvenskan goals in 24 matches, he was sold to Borussia Dortmund as the most expensive player from the Allsvenskan ever in a deal worth 85 million kronor.

When his career never really took off in the German club, Isak was sold to Real Sociedad in 2019. There it was immediately a success before moving to England and Newcastle in 2022.

In the World Championship qualification

Isak is selected in the Swedish World Championship qualification team that gathers in Stockholm today ahead of the matches against Slovenia and Kosovo.

When Sweden's national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson presented the team last week, he was asked about Isak's situation.

Alex is a very professional player, a strong character and he has worked hard. He is a gamechanger. I have talked to him several times, mentally he is strong. What we have said stays between us of course. Can he play 90 minutes? Of course not. Not at all, said Tomasson.
