The goal came midway through the first half at Anfield. Frenchman Bradley Barcola came down the right wing and, in front of goal, Alexander Isak was able to turn in the ball for the 2-0 goal. It was his sixth goal in seven league games this season.
The home team took the lead in the seventh minute. The goal was later ruled an own goal after a shot from German Florian Wirtz was deflected into the net by an away player.
Isak was substituted in the 77th minute. After eight games, Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League table, six points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.
For Brighton, Sweden midfielder Yasin Ayari started.
