Alexander Isak has not yet played for Liverpool after the record transfer from Newcastle for 1.66 billion kronor. In Liverpool's 1–0 win over Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend, Isak was left out of the squad.
Liverpool's coach Arne Slot has been clear that the match form is not quite there yet and that Isak will be played into the team with caution since he missed the entire pre-season.
Now that it is clear that Isak will make his debut, at home at Anfield against Spanish Atlético Madrid, Slot reveals that the match has always been the goal.
It was the plan all the time, says Slot to TNT Sports and continues:
In the end of a proper training week, you can have 45-60 minutes and that's what we will see today.
Isak played only a total of 20 minutes – all against Kosovo – in the national team's first two World Championship qualification matches over a week ago.
Liverpool's starting eleven: Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Isak, Salah, Gakpo, Robertson, Frimpong, Gravenberch.
