The 25-year-old had a fantastic December when he scored eight goals and two assists in six Premier League matches. It was the best goal scoring of all players in the English top league.

The goal scoring included a hat-trick against Ipswich. His 1–1 goal against Liverpool is among the goals nominated for goal of the month, writes the league on its website.

Isak is the fourth Swede to be named player of the month. The previous ones are Fredrik Ljungberg for Arsenal in June 2002, Johan Elmander for Bolton in November 2010 and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Manchester United in December 2016.

Isak has scored goals in his seven latest matches in Premier League and can become the fourth player to score goals in eight consecutive matches in the match against Wolverhampton on January 15.

Corrected: In an earlier version, there was an incorrect statement about how many players who have scored goals in eight consecutive matches.
