The European Film Academy has selected 45 feature films to compete for nominations at the awards ceremony in Athens on January 16. Only one Swedish film made the list: "Make Your Heart Hard" by Amanda Kernell.
Kernell's drama, set in Sápmi, won awards at the San Sebastian and Toronto film festivals this fall. But it was rejected by the Swedish Film Institute's committee, which selects Sweden's Oscar submission, in favor of Alex Schulman's debut film, "Archipelago."
The final nominations for the European Film Awards will be announced on November 14.
