The Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna has started the season in the best possible way. At a gala in Ramona, USA, the 22-year-old struck with a monstrous throw and crushed his own world record.
The new record stands at 75.56 and is over one meter longer than the previous world record, which was 74.35.
Thus, the Lithuanian is the first ever to throw over 75 meters.
It was not just Alekna who made a monster throw.
The runner-up in the competition, Australian Matthew Denny, also struck with a throw that would have meant a new world record before the competition. It measured 74.78.
Earlier in the day, Valarie Allman, USA, also made the longest throw on the women's side in 36 years, which landed at 73.52.
